Data from both K–12 sectors and the early childhood can aid policymakers in making funding decisions and policy discussions to improve access to early childhood education programs and ensure that the students receive a quality education. This can be done by showing how the funding is equitably distributed across the public schools and early childhood programs, whether there is an adequate supply of well-trained teachers, and what level of care is provided to the children. The data also enables policymakers to develop charts regarding the learners' progress. Such charts play an important role in determining whether the child is ready to transition from early childhood to school. Educators must understand how to read and interpret charts to make well-informed decisions. The data is collected from a child's progress in various domains of life, such as academics, physical development, and emotional development (Barnett & Ackerman, 2020). The professionals who manage early childhood education can use this information to determine the child's progress in various areas that contribute to a child's overall cognitive and social-emotional development.
One way to improve educational policies and programs is by investing in gathering and disseminating comprehensive, accurate, and useful data so people can make informed choices. Early childhood data provides a lot of transparency that states can use to build a common understanding of what works for children at different times. This could then be applied across jurisdictions and social classes, whether in grade school or college. The data would help develop the ideal programs and assess such programs to ensure that they are effective in facilitating the transition of children from early childhood education to school.
