Childhood refers to a period when a person is a child. The perceptions about childhood experiences vary from one person to another. Some people experience their childhood in strict environments while others experience the same in environments filled with freedom. Such experiences are what determines the kind of perception that people from different societies and culture have regarding childhood. Popular culture also plays an important role in determining people’s childhood experiences. For instance, children raised in neighborhoods filled with African Americans are likely to experience more violence in their childhood than children raised in neighborhoods with high status. This is an example of how popular culture can affect an individual’s childhood. The same experiences are reflected in the person's life, thus affecting how they raise their children. The concept of childhood regarding popular culture is wide. Therefore, this paper will focus on poor mental health, early alcohol usage, and sleep disparities regarding the theme of childhood.

Young adults present a developmental stage whereby their childhood is likely to affect their lives. A common example is a rate at which such individuals are likely to lose their jobs. The loss of jobs is highly associated with an individual’s mental health. The mental health of an individual can be attributed to their childhood. For instance, if a person had a traumatizing childhood, they will find it challenging to fit in the norms of society. Such a person is likely to battle the depression or anxiety developed as a result of their experiences as a child (Lee, Jungeun Olivia, et al.). The journal examines whether an individual’s childhood characteristics have an impact on the behavior they experience in their childhood. The journal uses ideas from previous studies carried out to determine the impact that an individual’s childhood has on their current life. The results indicate that children that experience traumatizing childhoods are more likely to get traumatized in their adult life. Therefore, there is a need to examine an individual’s childhood while addressing the issues disturbing them as an adult to find an effective solution.
