Classroom Engagement Strategies
Classroom management is vital as it helps in improving the classroom competence and form a conducive learning environment. Motivation triggers and sustains performance toward an objective. Students who are inspired have a tendency of being engaged, have better education results, and do better than other students on consistent achievement examinations (National Academies of Sciences et al. 2018). Numerous classroom engagement strategies define a properly-managed and well-organized classroom. These include supportive learning principles, interesting teaching, which fosters natural curiosity, a connection of content to real life and that which provides options in how the students learn and show their learning.
The first strategy is creating a supportive learning philosophy. This is where the teacher creates a feeling of connectedness in class (Ferlazzo, 2017). To implement this, the teacher must develop a mentorship platform or a support system providing the students with the needed help in any area of study. The strategy can also be supported through online discussion forums or just online platforms where scholars can receive and discuss various topics in the curriculum. For example, engrade. It is a platform where containing a set of web-based tools for a tutor that enables him/her connect online with students. This platform also provides computer applications for evaluation, for instance, applications for flashcards that can be utilized effectively for student self-assessment.

The engagements of students in such active learning responsibilities in team settings develop higher-level thinking skills, better communication skills, an emphasis on teamwork, a positive attitude toward the subject, and motivation to learn (In Keengwe, 2015). To maximize online collaboration, the tutors must embed the concept of peer review. This will include a subset of collaboration where individual students review their peers’ work and offer guidance under the supervision of the teacher. For instance, PBworks provides a commercial platform that permits the users to form shared workspaces where learners can join and engage in discussions.
The third strategy is by creating a link of subject to real life. It is a technique that involves the learners in their education by guaranteeing that the materials speak to them (Ferlazzo, 2017). This can be implemented by selecting a culturally applicable material. When students usually do not get representations of their values in texts, they are probable to be unconcerned school-based learning. The teacher can have the children to accomplish a brief survey about their outside interests and utilize the data to help in building their lesson plans. Through this, the students will see the connections between what they are studying in and out of the classroom.
