The competency standard of CDA are national standards. They are used to evaluate the performance of caregivers with families and children during the assessment process of CDA (Hopkins House, 2013). There are six competency goals which are goals about the caregivers' behaviors. They apply to all care settings of children. If I were in a center, I would meet the goals and functional areas as follows;
Goal one, establishing and maintaining a learning environment that is safe and healthy. It has three functional areas; safe, healthy, and learning environments. I would meet the first functional are safe by eliminating all possible cause of injury. I will complement it with supervision and ensure that all the equipment that they use are safe. On health, I will ensure I provide them with healthy choices. I will achieve this through physical activities, meals, and ensuring they are in a calm environment. Lastly, in the learning environment, I will provide appropriate educational material, they have to undergo a lot of scrutinies and must serve a particular purpose.
Goal two, make advancements in intellectual and physical competence. This goal has four functional areas; physical, cognitive, communication and creativity. Enhancing physical activity helps in the growth and growth of strong bones. I will plan appropriate physical activities daily. The cognitive development will be attained through a memory game and experimenting, then asking the kids to write what they expected would happen and the actual results.
