Reflect on how this learning experience has caused you to change or influenced your thoughts on advanced fire administration. Additionally, use your experience during the course to respond to one of the questions below.

Did the course have any positive or negative bearing on your thoughts about fire administration?

How this learning experience has caused you to change/ influenced your thoughts on advanced fire administration
The learning experience has made me adjust my thoughts on Advanced Fire Administration regarding education and leadership style to uphold. The experience has changed my thoughts on the value of formal education in this field. As a seasoned firefighter with over twelve years of experience in the fire service, I have always believed that Fire Academy training and having extensive fire ground experience is all that made one respectable and a worthy firefighter. However, through this learning experience, I realized that formal education is equally important as having the ground experience. It molds the officers into solid firefighters who can perform their duties and be strong leaders who can take managerial roles. Education expands one’s wealth of knowledge and experience. Through formal training, one gets essential knowledge and skills that complement their field experience to make them even more quality officers. Also, education gives officers the chance to climb up the career ladder.
The experience has changed my thoughts on the leadership style to be practiced in advanced fire administration. Previously, I thought that a task-motivated style of leadership, where the fire administrator focuses on the planning, organizing, and defining the roles of the EMS officers, and a relationship-oriented type of leadership focuses on supporting and motivating the EMS officers to work as teams are all that is needed. However, the course has changed this perspective through the knowledge of the cooperative leadership style. It necessitates the executive fire administrator to be flexible when leading by participating in all EMS officers’ activities as a perfect model. It also means being flexible so that the FES officers can have an opinion on the operation and running of their firehouse and be part of the decision-making process. As a result, an administrator focuses on being the motivator and creator of strong bonds within the firehouse, which sees quality work put out, strong relationships built, and minor conflicts.
Specific skills /perspectives I acquired, as a result, will make the task of being an FES administrator more effective.
