Media Ecology Theory
There exists interdependence between different sorts of media and the consumers of the media. According to the theory of media ecology, which translates to the world being reduced to a global community, McLuhan believes in technological determinism to be the medium as the message. The media is shaping our reality and understanding of communication (Stephens, 2018). The characteristic of this global community is that it allows for instant communication (Cali n.d). This means that space and time do not matter for a message to be sent. Media controls the environment for consumption (Mir, 2022). Marshall believes it also changes our attitudes toward the way we get the information and how we interpret it (Velasquez, 2018). Instant communication is one of the drivers of global connection (Gilchrist, 2018). Some of the major assumptions of the media ecology theory are that media is saturated in every part of our daily routine majorly because of the mediated environment we live in (Laskowska, 2019). Another assumption is that media fixes our insight and arranges our experiences (Stephens, 2018). Media ties the world to by shaping content entertainment (Joyce, 2019).
