The United States has been a vital pillar of the gulf region's security for many years before the United States retreated from the gulf and the Middle East. Despite the US retreat, the superpower will impact the Gulf region's security since both regions currently depend on each other. The gulf region countries have gained massive financial weight, which has made them be at the center of the global financial system and giving them the power to work with any regional partner willing to lead the rest of the world. The kind of leader elected for the United States greatly impacts how the united states relate to the Middle East and the gulf regions politically and economically. Donald Trump’s presidential term in office has been the most controversial in American history, and it has led to a heated debate on who will be the next president of the United States. Whether Donald Trump or Joe Biden wins the American 2020 election, the winner has a significant impact on the Middle East and the Gulf regions.
A discussion was held on 2nd November 2020 by Brookings Doha Center and the Arab Barometer, discussing the effects the 2020 American election winner will have on America and the Middle East's policy. The discussion was based on the opinions of the Middle East's public and the gulf region conducted by the Arab Barometer concerning America's favorability to the two regions. Results from the polls showed that only one out of ten people thought president trump was more favorable in terms of foreign policy, while a third of the public said Joe Biden would have a favorable foreign policy. The poll results also showed 40%people in Lebanon had neutral grounds, and they thought it didn't matter who won the elections. During the discussion, the director of the Arab Barometer said trump did not have popularity in the Gulf region, and his presidential terms have led to a sentimental decline in the United States. Half of the Middle East polls favored Joe Biden, making the results unclear which US president the Middle East publicans thought would favor foreign policies.
