Nike is one of the multinational companies that specialize in manufacturing apparel, outwear, and accessories. Its headquarters are in Beaverton, Oregon. The company is the world’s largest manufacturer of sportswear. In the year 2017, its brand had a value of $19billion. in 2018, the company was ranked position 89 in the Fortune 500 list in regard to companies' total revenue. Nike was founded by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in 1964. It was named as Blue-Ribbon Sports, and its name changed to Nike in 1971. Nike has sponsored plenty of sports teams and high-profile athletes.
Nike's corporate structure emphasizes the importance of addressing the differences in its regional markets. Each of the markets targets specific customers, and hence, the management team has to ensure that the customers are satisfied with the product. For instance, the need for the sportswear changes in regard to climate and the popularity of the sports. In the case of the most popular sports, the company is known to make huge sales as compared to less popular sports. Therefore, the company has created an organizational structure which can easily adjust to the changing market conditions. This enables the company to maximize its profits and avoid sudden losses. Nike is an example to other companies on how they should deal with regional variations. This kind of structure reinforces the company's competitive advantage, especially in the case of penetrating new and existing regional markets (Mahdi, Abbas, Mazar & George, 2015). The company has developed a geographic divisional organizational structure due to its global needs. This is evidenced by Nikes Global corporate leadership, the global divisions for its brand licensing and the geographic divisions. This kind of structure helps the company in maintaining its stability and growth. The global corporate leadership plays a substantial role in the facilitation of control for the company.
