This week's discussion based on the article "on international business complexity and the internationalization of languages" has been very comprehensive, especially in the business portfolio. In my view, I strongly agree with the article that languages play an important role in international trade. Trade involves the exchange of goods between people. The fact that there is an exchange of goods and services, there ought to be a communication link between the two parties (Borchert et al. 2012). Therefore, communication can be categorized as a basic tool for trading. Sometimes international trade involves people from different geographical areas that are characterized by different cultures, thus shaping their languages and way of communication. This brings about a language barrier in trading activities since there is formal and comprehensive communication that would lead to agreements between the two parties. In early life, intermediaries were used to facilitating trade between two parties that speak different languages and need to make some trade-ins (Junginger et al. 2011). The strategy was effective though the intermediaries were sometimes unfaithful and conveyed different messages between both parties for personal gains and robbery. An example of this scenario is the transatlantic trade, where the Tuaregs were the intermediaries between the buyers and the seller of goods.
However, with the formalization of English as the universal language of trading, there have been effective trading activities globally, thus improving the scale of economies in different countries. Adaptation of English has made it possible to unite people of different diversities into a common trade forum where they can communicate easily and understand each other with no point of contradiction (Junginger et al., 2011).
