NS M1D1 Assignment: Haboob, Sandstorms And Dust Storms

Essay Instructions:

Weather is a complex and varied science. Terms such as hot and humid, cold and dry air masses, cold fronts, warm fronts, as well as high and low pressure systems, are all involved in the science of weather. Descriptions concerning the gaseous composition of air and methods used to monitor the atmosphere may be new concepts to you; however, these ideas will help you to develop new knowledge on how weather systems work. By sharing your own weather experiences, you will have an opportunity to build your foundational knowledge with these concepts before we move on to more complex materials. Instructions for this Activity write about your coolest, neatest, or most significant weather experience. Perhaps you did not evacuate a coastline during a hurricane and witnessed firsthand extreme damage all around you. Maybe you took shelter from a tornado passing near to where you were. Or maybe you were in a flood. Hopefully, you and the people around you were safe. Alternatively, you may have lived through a massive snowstorm, avalanche, Chinook, Santa Ana, nor’easter, heat wave, or drought. If your choice of events occurred overseas, perhaps you experienced a haboob. Everyone has surely said “Wow!” to some weather event along their way. Write it down and describe what you experienced. Should be no less than 250 words, excluding references.

While a sandstorm can rise as high as fifty feet above the ground, a haboob can rise as high as two thousand to three thousand feet high. They can also be as wide as 100 miles, travel at speeds of 50 miles per hour, and travel for 50 to 200 miles. Haboobs typically engulf cities in dust and leave you wishing you had control ...
