Disaster and catastrophe may seem the same as some catastrophic events may be termed as disastrous while some disastrous events may be termed catastrophic. However, there is a difference between the two. A catastrophe is an event that is tragic. Its scale ranges from a misfortune that is extreme to a total ruin or overthrow. In the olden days catastrophe was used to term tragic events such as a volcanic eruption, hurricane among others but nowadays it is used to term any event whose ending is disastrous.
