The Jazz Age
The first piece of art in our analysis is created by Armand-Albert Rateau, entitled “Renards” (Foxes): Ten-Panel Screen. This was created in 1921-22 and is currently housed at the Cleveland Museum of Art. This work represents one of the early creations of the Jazz Age era that produced sharp contrasts of colors between the different shades. In contrasts with the style of the Jazz Age, it is clearly visible how this piece of art incorporated European influences and artistic movements, through the design chosen by the creator. It also represented the era as it utilizes technology to create the piece, which is one of the benchmarks of similar pieces of art. This use of technology symbolizes a new medium that is also characterized by the Jazz Age.
