Introduction
The social identity is an integral part of human development and social upbringing. Without the existence of difference and similarity frameworks individuals belonging to different societies find it difficult to get a social connection with one another. According to Richard Jenkins, identity can be defined in terms of collective and individual attributes and a single unified framework is required for defining them. Jenkins has highlighted a set of different issues present in the society like modernity, institutionalizing, categorization, embodiment and identity (Chambers, 2017). The social world can be conceptualized into three orders which are institutional, individual and interactional. Categorization is an integral component in understanding social world parameters and attributes.
The ethnic identities and components can be easily understood in relation to social identity. Subedi (2017) discusses that social categorization plays an important role in the development of social identities most of the research work conducted in the last decade has been inspired from Barth’s theories related to ethnic groups. Barth emphasizes on developing an internal mechanism or structure for group identification in relation to categorization. Categorization is an integral element in ethnic identity development. In addition, categorization is also important in understanding the significance of authority and power relations in the entire process. Furthermore, categorization also helps in recognizing virtual parameters and nominal parameters of social identities.

The social identity of individuals influences their behaviors and attitudes. For example, if a person portrays oneself as an environmentalist it is very likely that the individual will make efforts towards recycling and conserving water. By adopting a certain pattern or process the individuals become emotionally connected with their surroundings. Hence, it has a significant impact on their self-confidence and self-esteem. In addition to that, people socially compare themselves in relation to their environment. Some group members use social standings low and high and high levels for portraying their influence on other members or groups of people. For instance, a stage artist may think oneself as socially higher in front of the respective audiences (Vinney, 2019). In contrast, the stage artist may consider himself on low social ground when performing in TV serials.
