Read the first four scenes of "a streetcar named desire" and answer the questions. 

As you read the first four chapters, take notes on the following questions. 
Scene One
1. Who are the following characters (brief notes are fine- not all will be introduced in Scene 1):

5. What does Blanche say about drinking?  How does what she says match (or not match) her actions? Be specific. 
Scene Two
1. Why does Stanley think Blanche is wealthy?  What proof does he use, and what evidence does he think is curiously missing?
2. What do the lines on p 39 (“Compliments to women…”) inform you about Stanley?
3. What do the lines on page 41 (“All right. Cards on the…”) inform you about Blanche?
4. What do the lines on page 43 (“There are thousands…”) lead you to believe about Belle Reve and the DuBois ancestry?
Scene Three
1. Describe the interaction between Mitch and Blanche.  Use no more than ten words to explain your thoughts.  I mean it…ten words.
2. Blanche says, “Sorrow makes for sincerity.”  What does she mean by this?
3. What does Mitch refer to when he says on page 61, “That don’t make no difference in The Quarter.”
Scene Four
1. What does Blanche say she wants on page 65?
2. Who is Shep Huntleigh? What does Shep Huntleigh represent to Blanche?  
3. What does Blanche think about Stanley?
4. What does Stella think about what Blanche thinks about Stanley?
TOGETHER: 1. In Scene 3: Why would Williams put such socially unacceptable behavior (domestic abuse) into his play? Why would Williams have Stella return to Stanley?
