 Who Am I?
I am an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Sociology. I grew up with my mother who was the breadwinner. My mother used to juggle between two jobs to make ends meet. Having my mother around shaped my upbringing so much. I would best define myself as a resilient individual. I am highly motivated with a high level of self-esteem. This was built during my early school days. Since I am the only sibling, I had to learn to fight for myself. I had to build self-esteem to survive the cruel school environment.
Besides, I am also a fighter. I have a strong belief in myself. I believe that I can always achieve my goals. On the contrary, I believe that people fail at times and that failure gives them the chance to grow up. At school, I am a student’s leader. I am the secretary of the students’ leader’s organization. I believe in human rights and that we are all equal despite our gender, religious and racial differences. I also believe that our background differences should not allow people to discriminate against others.
Being a student leader, I act as a role model for many students. I mostly share my story to them to motivate my colleagues and to prove to them that everyone can achieve anything so long as they put in the necessary effort. I am a member of the school’s rugby 7s team. I play left wing. It is fun engaging my teammates outside class and other official engagements. Playing rugby has taught me resilience. It has taught me to accept losses and that losing is not fatal. I am also a member of the law school club. The law school club is an organization tasked with negotiating for better living standards of living for the students and defending those with genuine cases with the school’s administration.
The Process / Concepts of Socialization
Ideally, the process of socialization takes place through two primary stages. Which Backhaus Chaloupek, & Frambach (2019) say are primary and secondary stages. The primary stages of socialization happen immediately after birth to adolescents. During these stages, one is mainly guided by all the persons that the individual is exposed to. Therefore, this is a crucial part of a child’s development. During this time, the child or teenager is guided by their parents, teachers as well as their peer groups and religious figure if any.
