Fate and personal responsibility is an important variable that largely affects communication across different cultures. While we may have free will to choose what is desirable in our lives, there are things that are beyond our own control. Michele LeBaron examines this variable in another sense where we should understand the extent to which we can control the paths of our lives (LeBaron, 2003).
