The chosen research topic that is both interesting and manageable is “obesity”. There are various methods that may be helpful in identifying and narrowing my research paper topic. The first method is focusing on the issue. By focusing on a specific issue that is pertinent to my topic, I am able to narrow my research topic. Another method is by identifying the subject (Kothari, 2009). This method is helpful in narrowing the topic in order to focus on the subject of the research question, for instance a specific race, age or gender. Another method is by focusing on place or geographical area. By narrowing the place to be covered can ensure that I am not overwhelmed with the scope of my topic. To make the topic manageable, I could focus on a specific geographical region for instance in the United States. The last method is the methodology used in collecting and interpreting data. This is crucial in narrowing the topic since I can decide on a quantitative approach that focuses on theories and mathematical models, or I can pick a qualitative approach that focuses on how and why (Kothari, 2009).
