The New Deal was one of the major catalyst that led the United States to where it is today. Specifically, the series of programs and projects instituted during that time did not only led to the end of The Great Depression, but also ushered a new era in establishing the rights and privileges of the common worker CITATION ANend1 \l 1033 (A New Deal: Part 5, n.d.). However, it must be noted that some of the most commended acts – the Social Security Act and the National Industrial Recovery Act – that led to the country’s prosperity have their own racist origins.
The Great Depression took a heavy toll on the minorities living in the United States. Due to the economic repercussions that led to an increase in joblessness, some charities refused to provide the minorities with food, while plenty of the White workers have engaged in violence against the minorities due to the belief that they are the reason for the increase in joblessness CITATION Encnd \l 1033 (Encyclopedia.com, n.d.). Accordingly, the turbulent financial conditions led the government to pass the Social Security Act, which initially excluded the agricultural and domestic workers that are mostly composed of the minorities CITATION DeW10 \l 1033 (DeWitt, 2010).
