First is defining and describing the behavior in detail and setting clear behavioral goals. Second is gathering information about the behavior through observation, interviewing relevant people, and reviewing relevant records. The third step is examining the data to identify patterns between the behavior, antecedents, and consequences. Forth is developing a hypothesis about the function behind the behavior based on the data analysis. The fifth step is developing and implementing evidence-based interventions that target the purpose behind the behavior. The sixth and final stage of filling out an FBA form is regularly evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions.

There are several methods that a mentor can use to compile information about a learner’s behavior and how it impacts their learning, and these include: One, the mentor can monitor the learner’s behavior in various settings, such as the classroom or playground through structured observation techniques, such as event sampling or interval recording. Two, the mentor can interview the student, teachers, parents, and other relevant individuals to gather information about the behavior and its impact on academics. Three, utilizing self-monitoring strategies by asking students to keep a record of their behavior, such as a daily diary. These methods are used to gather comprehensive data about the student's behavior. The data collected is then analyzed to identify relationships between the behavior and its antecedents and consequences. This information is then used to develop evidence-based interventions to support the student's success.
