Public speaking and conversations both can be confused, as they are methods of communicating with each other. Conversation is more friendly and hence more informal than public speaking. Public speaking inspires more fear than conversation. The two methods, however, require and aim at delivering the message in a clear manner.
Similarities between conversation and public speaking
Public speaking and conversations are both styles of communicating with each other. It is a way of presenting thoughts, opinions, and idea.
They both require the organization of ideas logically and systematically. In both one tells the story for maximum effect
Differences
Public speaking is structured and speaking is usually about a certain topic or selected range of topics that give little or no room for deviation. The conversation does not necessarily have a predetermined topic as in most cases it develops spontaneously.
Public speaking requires an indifferent style of delivery like erect posture and louder voice as it message directed to a group of people who have no meaningful relationship and it is only one person with an opportunity to speak, but in conversation, it is essential to a meaningful relationship and all participants have an equal chance of communicating.
Ways to avoid being nervous before a speech
Practice; when one rehearses a presentation it increases morale because what is being presented is well grasped and there are no threats of surprises during the speech.
Watching online and attending other similar speeches events or gathering. Attending talks by other presenters helps one gain confidence and know the dos and don'ts during a speech.
Meet and greet. Arriving early and interacting with the crowd before the presentation will help in knowing the audiences and increases the chance of them liking you.
