Over the course of the semester, you will work towards a final paper in which you analyze reception of a particular media text: for instance, you may pick a popular television show or music album or film and examine audience response to it, and what the implications are.

How does it tie back to ideas we've studied in class, and what scholarship can you find that offers some perspective on this 

This assignment has two components.

Part 1 DUE OCTOBER 17th: You will submit a proposed bibliography for your paper with a 1-page outline.

This will help you start your planning and provides an opportunity to receive early feedback on the general idea behind the paper and choice of sources and writing style. There is no maximum page limit on the bibliography but | would recommend that you include a minimum of 6-8 academic sources and 2-3 supplementary sources (e.g. audience blogs, websites or articles with information such as box office, ratings, awards or other ways of gauging audience reaction to a media text). The outline and bibliography should be double-spaced and formatted using MLA or APA.

In the outline, explain what text you’ re examining and how this ties back to course ideas and concepts and briefly mention possible arguments.

Part 2: This final paper, which now includes your thesis statement, arguments, incorporation of theories/concepts from class, and incorporation of the research you started gathering back in Part 1.

The paper should be a maximum 8 pages, double-spaced and typed, formatted using MLA or APA, and must include a bibliography within the 8 pages.

Thesis Statement: The film Mother! (2017) contains excessive violence that may evoke sharp reactions from the audience, but the lessons it passes on are worth thinking about.
Summary of the Film
The movie has two main characters, Him and Mother. In the beginning, the audience sees them repairing a dilapidated house (Lawrence & Bardem, 2017). Later on, many more families join them, and they engage in great violence. Ultimately, they kill Mother’s son, which leads her to burn herself in the house. 
The movie is allegorical (Wright, 2018). It outlines the history of mankind from creation, fall from grace, redemption, and ultimate destruction.
Responses to the Film
Audience response refers to the gratification that content triggers in the audience. Gratification may involve fun or suspense (Oliver & Bartsch, 2010). For instance, in the film Mother!, the content leaves the audience horrified.
Measuring audience response has several merits, including examining how the audience experiences content (Belle, 2022)
