URL is an acronym for uniform resource locator, which acts as an address to the content or resources on the internet. As such, they are used to access html pages on the internet. Without the url, it is impossible to locate any resources on the internet. It would be like looking for a place on the world map without a street address or actual location; only this time there may be a million places with the same name. There are various specific parts of the URL that make it unique to the address of the content.
/TheCompany/Revenues.html  is a good example of a URL. The http represents the protocol identifier. This means that, it is part of the url that points to the protocol used in searching the internet for the resource or the page on the web. It is an acronym for hypertext transfer protocol and is used in serving up hypertext documents from the web. There are types of protocols such as FTP (File Transfer Protocol), News, File and Gopher among others. The www is called a sub domain, which is part of the larger domain. The major part of the domain in this url is film.com. The firm represents the domain segment, while .com represents the top level domain. On the other hand, The Company forms the file directory/sitemap or the folder from which the file has been retrieved. This works in the same way as the UNIX or the PC DOS directories, where the folders represent the collection of several files that are related. The directories make easy to access the content and also make it more organized. The revenues represent the name of the file that the address will access from the company directory. As mentioned earlier, there may be more than one file that are stored in the mentioned directory and thus one needs to specify the actual file that they want to access. At the end of every other url, there is a file extension. This extension dictates to the web browser the kind of file that one want to access from the directory predetermined. In this case, the file extension is html, meaning that the file type is a web page. HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language, used in the creation of web pages.
BMP or otherwise referred to as bitmaps are quite old and native to the windows operating system. There are a little of loss during the file saving process and thus they are resultantly large files. Ideally, even though there are are lossless, they tend to be of the same quality to other formats. BPM images also have direct and indexed palettes but they tend to be of a smaller consolation. On the other hand, the JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) formats are much smaller. The size reduction is attributed to the fact that this format has some form of loss. The format sheds of some of the image qualities that are not noticed by the human eye but does not compromise the quality of the picture. Due to the aspect of loss, the files tend to lose more quality as they are saved over many times. The palette of the JPEG images consists of many thousands of colors making it a good fit for photography. However, they tend to be poor at maintaining the quality of line drawings and logos. The PNG (Portable Network Graphic) unlike the JPEGs are lossless image formats. This means that like the BMP, they i...
