(Potter, 2016). Media literacy creates both benefits and risks for the individual. One benefit is the ability to adapt to changing technologies. Risks include reduced attention span and harm to the ability to write well.

This is the mental state where the human mind operates without conscious effort from the subject. Automaticity creates both benefit and risk for the individual. It allows humans to make numerous decisions without expending any effort. Automaticity, however, makes people miss out on important messages, which means they can miss out on enjoy key moments in life.

Media Exposure

Media exposure refers to interactions with the different types of media such as social media, televisions, and radio. A benefit of media exposure is that it allows people to easily adapt to new media types that keep coming up due to advancements in technology. One also gets information that can be useful for modern living. A risk associated with media exposure is conditioned habits, particularly when media goals are different from one’s goals (Potter, 2016).
