Basic Understanding of Facebook’s Features

Facebook is a free social networking platform created in 2004 by a group of Harvard University students. Mark Zuckerberg and his roommates Chris Hughes, Eduardo Saverin, and Dustin Moskovitz wanted students to have a platform to share their ideas and opinions. However, Facebook expanded gradually to become the most prominent social networking platform in the world. Currently, Facebook has approximately 2.85 billion active users globally. Facebook is designed to be friendly for individuals of all ages, professions, and skillsets. The platform is easy to navigate and ensures that people keep in touch with their loved ones. Facebook users can share their thoughts or opinions, comment on others’ posts, show their feelings, like others’ comments, and share posts, ads, or videos. In this tutorial, we will focus on how to navigate Facebook. As such, you need to have a registered account to follow this tutorial effectively. Moreover, this tutorial will enable users to have a basic understanding of Facebook’s features, know how to comment, like, or share, and be able to create a new group.

Part 1: Navigating Facebook’s Home Screen
This section helps users familiarize themselves with the first screen they come across after successfully logging into Facebook. To access the page, you need to go to / and enter your login details correctly. We will focus on the common sections and buttons that you will see on the home screen and their features.
* Getting Started Sections
Facebook’s home screen contains the sections shown below, which have different features.

* Search Bar
You can click on this bar and type any word or phrase. Facebook allows you to search for ads, people, places, groups, videos, games, and other content.
* Home Button
You can click on this button when navigating to return to the home page.
* Watch Button
You can click on this button to watch your favorite videos.
* Marketplace Button
You can click on this button to see different ads. Facebook categorizes products to make it easy for users to search for what they want. Some categories include apparel, vehicles, family, electronics, property rentals, home goods, entertainment, and auto parts.
* Groups Button
You can click this button to see the groups you have joined and comment, like, or share posts.
* Gaming Button
You can click this button when you want to play games.
* Menu
When you click the menu, you will see a pop-up window with the following items:

This button shows you whether you have unseen messages. You can click on it to see messages from the most current to the oldest ones.
