Situation
Social media is a computerized technology that facilitates sharing of ideas by the use of the internet. Typically, it uses networking to help users connect thoughts and ideas by virtual mechanism (Hudson, 2020). Essentially, social media was developed through digital technology, and it uses the internet to connect people and businesses in varied zones across the globe. Some of the content shared on social media include videos and photos. Social media is not confined to just communication since it provides a comprehensive platform to share any form of data. Social media can be used for various reasons. For example, it can be used to communicate or for entrepreneurship (Hudson, 2020). All e-commerce businesses and activists use social media platforms to sell their ideas to end-users.
Feminism is typically the idea of advocating for equal opportunities for all genders. In this case, the ideology of feminism calls for equity and respect for every woman showcasing their strength and abilities to the corporate world. Additionally, feminism can be classified into three categories. We have radical feminism, which entails extremism (Evans, 2005). In this prospect, radical feminism seeks to eliminate the male and reordering the ways of society. The objective is to ensure that only women are recognized in society. Liberal feminism focuses on meeting the needs of women by advocating for equal rights and opportunities (Evans, 2005). Cultural feminism believes that women should have more excellent value in society since men and women have a different approach to the world.
Problem
Recently feminists have distanced themselves from using social media to advocate for their rights since the platforms do not support their objective of feminism (Crossley, 2015). In most cases, women across the globe have had a problematic adventure in ensuring that they get equal rights. However, women have different goals in advocating for feminism. The category in the feminism structure determines it. For example, most women who fight for cultural feminism do not get the opportunity to air their grievances in the media. Firstly, social media regard it as a violation of policies that push them to pull their videos or photos. Secondly, social media rights and goals are not aligned with the objectives of feminists since most of them are termed as radical and against the morals of society.
Solutions
Several solutions can be applied to merge the gap in advocating for feminism through social media. Social media should enhance the advocacy of feminism through campaigns. In this case, social media should implement a level ground that allows every feminist to advocate for rights without the worry of being fined or kicked out of the platforms (Evans, 2005).
