A small department of 10 people is having a hard time working together because two senior employees create an uncomfortable work environment. Will team-building training fix the problem? The purpose of team building training is to motivate people to work together, to develop their strengths, and to address any weaknesses.
Employees don’t know how to use the organization’s new computer system. Will computer system training fix the problem?
Employees can’t keep up with their workload due to a staffing shortage. Will time management training fix the problem?
An employee who works at a restaurant arrives at work late at least one day per week. The restaurant shift manager believes the employee needs to redo their new employee orientation training, during which the employee handbook is discussed. The contemporary workplace environments have neem emphasizing the role of training as an acritical approach to resolving businesses or workplace challenges. However, a critical view on the concept of training may show that training is not a panacea solution to all organizational challenges. Available empirical evidence doesn’t always support training (Aragon & Valle, 2013).
1 In the case of a department, when teams cannot work together effectively, training will only be a partial solution. There is a need to dig deeper to know the root cause of missing teamwork and spirit. Team building exercise and training will partially motivate people to work together because it helps identify strengths and weaknesses, then initiate efforts towards exploiting such strengths and minimizing the weakness.
