Response One — This response is a Reader-Response to The Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is an “everyman” character. That means he represents the human condition. Everyone can relate to his symbolic experiences. Choose one of the following episodes from the epic and explain how you relate to it:
1.Gilgamesh is two-thirds god and one-third man. He is powerful and he uses his power destructively.
2.When his friend Enkidu dies, he becomes preoccupied with thoughts of his own mortality.
3.When he sees the lions playing, he slays them.
4.When Siduri counsels him to abandon his quest for the impossible and to enjoy what life has to offer, he rejects her wisdom.
5.When he finally gets what he wants, it is instantly taken away from him.

Response Two — This response is a Comparison-Contrast of the afterworlds in The Epic of Gilgamesh, Plato’s Phaedo, and Dante’s Divine Comedy. He was gifted with wisdom and was able to foreseen secrets things that might associate with his kingdom and the people. Gilgamesh is two-thirds of goods and one third- man because the great gods gave Gilgamesh a perfect body with the beauty that surpassing all other terrifying like great wild bull. It is believed that Shamash, the god of the sun, endowed him with beauty, Adad the god of storm, endowed him with courage. Although he was powerful and no man would dare to conquer him in war, but he still tends to use his power destructively. For instance, he used to kill men and molest women in the kingdom, knowing that no man would stand in his way and start questioning him to correct his misconduct. "They complain so much about his arrogance and lust. He kills the young men in the duels and molests the women. He abuses his subjects in his palace" this shows how King Gilgamesh uses his power to destroy his people instead of making them happy. Also, Gilgamesh uses his power destructively when he agrees with Enkidu to attack the guardian of the forest, Humbaba, and killed him even after begging for mercy. In wrapping up, king Gilgamesh was mighty in protecting his kingdom and conquering other kingdoms. Although he was wise enough in all his ways, he still had some flaws of being lustful. He molested women and kill the men without being considerate at all. This kind of behavior in his leadership out made the people unhappy with him in the kingdom.
According to the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu describes Afterworlds as a place where people go when they die. When a person dies, heaven has to roar as a sign of welcoming to the new destination.
