Christopher Hight’s “Designing Ecologies” Essay
In Christopher Hight’s essay, “Designing Ecologies,” one of the quotes that can be derived right on the onset is the idea of ecology without nature. This evokes a fundamental question: What would that scenario look like if it would strip away the one thing we constantly rely on? Would it be a territory that infuses both landscape and architecture? Would it be a machine simulating ecologies that look natural? That said, it is increasingly essential to attempt to visualize that scenario. For instance, it could be a fully cladding landscape with architectural cladding materials, including glass, concrete, steel, and other kinds of existing resources. The cranes could be positioned in the background to show that this ecology would continue to grow and expand into the future. This kind of environment would be increasingly mosaic or fabric of various materials overlapping as well as covering what is underneath. Despite the landscape share being very much visible, it is inclined to lose its natural material and replace it with more urban materials (Hight). What types of resources can this give back to the communities? And vice versa?
Speaking of urban, I would agree with Hight’s arguments. The most significant example of ecology in New York City could be Central Park.
