Cultural Critic: Technology

Book Review Instructions:

you will write a very short, 1-2 page (double spaced) piece of writing about the novel Adam--any part of it, you have the whole text at your disposal.
What is a cultural critic paper? It is a concise piece of writing in which you style yourself as an engaged cultural thinker, telling readers something about what you have read or watched that you consider relevant or important to broader issues of gender, sexuality, and/or race. That means you do not need to summarize the plot beyond what is necessary for a reader to follow along with your ideas. You should select a particular aspect, idea, passage, moment, or image that you find interesting and use your writing to say something unique about it. That might sound vague, but the goal of these very short assignments is to practice reading and writing about culture. Imagine yourself as a cultural critic writing for an online LGBTQ publication that you might turn to after a particularly hyped episode of a tv show you love: you need to tell your readers what is important and interesting about what you consumed. Give them your “take,” help them dig into what they have just watched along with you. Tell them why they should care about it and want to think about this aspect of culture, or identity and representation, further.

Adam is not sure whether he is gay or not due to her failure to convince Kelsey to have sex with him.
The book portrays how sexuality is affecting the young generation. At some point, the Ariel Schrag says, “Brad was obsessed with Casey – all guys were – and was always bugging him, “When are you gonna let me watch your hot sister fuck another girl?” as if Adam were the bouncer to his sister’s bedroom door” (Schrag 12). Here, it is clear that Brad was heterosexual, and he loved Casey, Adam’s sister. However, Casey was a lesbian, and she liked having sex wit...
