Written by Luis J. Rodriguez, Always Running is one of the bestselling classic memoirs in history. This award-winning story is about a young gang member who survives the dangerous streets of East Los Angeles. Throughout the book, the author sheds light on different aspects of his life and describes how he lost his innocence while working as a street criminal or a gang member. Luis J. Rodriguez was born and raised in a tough environment where he had to struggle for his survival on a daily basis. From his childhood, things were difficult to deal with, and this is how he lost his innocence at an early age.
It is a common observation that young children are innocent, and they are kept from the harsh environment, but in case of Luis, he has to work hard for every single necessity since his family is poor. In a way, all of them are trapped in a vicious circle they could not escape, and this makes Luis J. Rodriguez feel bad, and he eventually joins the gang (Rodriguez 12). With time, Luis J. Rodriguez becomes more and more violent and gets engaged in different activities that are odd in nature. In this book, the author also points out that the police is responsible for controlling the violent outbursts in the city, but instead of doing so, they contributes to the problem and this gives rise to an increased number of gang rapes, street crimes and murders within the city.
