Introduction
In their study, Shrestha, Anderson, and Moore (2013) examined the efficiency of point-of-view video modeling when applied in forward-chaining in teaching a 4-year-old boy suffering from autism on serving himself a snack in the afternoon. The researchers conducted a task analysis, diving the task into three phases and each phase having 1 video. They designed a changing criterion for evaluating the impact of the intervention had on the participant’s capacity to prepare and serve Weetbix without assistance. Findings showed that combining forward chaining and point-of-view modeling was efficient in teaching the participant how to serve snack with no prompting. It was also shown that despite maintaining the skill at follow–up, the findings could not be generalized to other snacks apart from Weetbix. Parents were satisfied with the procedures used and the outcomes from the intervention.

Observational learning refers to learning that takes place through the observation of behavior among others. It is applied as a form of social learning that is done in different forms and based on different processes. In human beings, it is applied in teaching individuals a new behavior. It is a common procedure used in medical procedures such as teaching autistic children how to live independently and without the need for a prompt.

(POVM) is a relatively new development that entails videotaping the completion of a task from the perspective of the target individual. It helps in showing behaviors that need fine motor skills.

Video prompting procedures are helpful in teaching functional self-help skills, and they arise from the varying efficacy of the POVM. VP involves breaking down a complex behavior into various, smaller tasks and steps. Their major disadvantage is that they cause one to be dependent on the procedures. One tends to get used to depending on prompts to do any activity.
How does forward chaining improve upon VP techniques?
