Essay information:
Please select from one of the following 2 options to write a short essay. Essays must meet a minimum of 250-350 words. You are welcome to go over the word count if needed (though it is not expected!), but should not be under the minimum word count. Make sure to read the Essay Etiquette guide prior to writing this assignment for the "do's" and "don'ts" of essay writing in this course.
If you are paraphrasing from the textbook, make sure to use a citation at the end of the sentence, ex. (Kleiner, p. - ). Paraphrasing is fine, but do not quote directly from the textbook. This essay is about your observations and knowledge gained from the lectures and readings and is designed to help prepare you for comparisons on the final exam.
These essays are analytical and critical responses. You should not say "I" or give opinions.

Option #1:
What are some of the unique elements of Roman art and architecture that distinguish it from its Greek predecessors? Discuss 3 specific examples in detail from the Roman Republican and Imperial lectures or chapter to support your point.
OR
Option #2:
Compare an early Christian image of Christ from before 313 to an early Christian image of Christ from after 313 and discuss the differences between the two. Make sure to situate both pieces in their historical context in addition to visual analysis.
Here are my professor's advises of my previous essays:
Essay1: Your broad information here is very good, but you needed to select specific examples (as specified in the essay question.) This means you need to compare a specific Egyptian example with a specific Minoan example. Since this is a visual class, all discussions must take place through the visual analysis of specific pieces.
Again, your other information is excellent, but you have to analyze through comparisons of specific art works. This is week 1, so grading is more lenient, and as I said your other work is good, so I have docked only one point. But normally, failure to use specific examples for the other essays, as specified in the essay prompts, would result in losing half credit on a assignment.
It seems like you understand the material really well though, so as long as you follow the directions of the essay questions, you should do great in this class!
Essay 2: Overall, great work! Just be careful not to use personal pronouns in these essays (you say "we"). Keep it all in the 3rd person. Try "one" or "the viewer" instead. It just comes across as more analytical writing.
Overall, this is is very well done. Just make sure to delve even deeper into the specific details of pieces and have more formal analysis. Your historical context and background is very thorough and well written, but make sure to think and write more about the pieces and their details as well. Use the details of the works of art to prove the points in your discussion.
One other note, make sure you italicize the names of works of art!

Greeks greatly influenced Roman culture, and the influence was vividly seen in art and architecture. Significant artists usually focused on the remodeling and reshaping of Greek forms of art. In terms of architecture, the artists adopted the Greek models. While there were significant similarities between the Roman and Greek art and architecture, there are unique elements through which the Roman architecture standouts from the Greek predecessors. In the history of architecture, it is known that the Romans were the first people to use curved or arched construction, where the roof of a building is supported by arches instead of using beams and posts.
In Greek culture, the use of arches in the construction of buildings is absent. The primary materials that were used for development in the Roman empire were stones and concrete. They were known as the first people to utilize cement extensively in their construction. During the formative years, the Roman state was limited to Italy, and later expanded across the Mediterranean Sea. The dominant architectural activities in Rome peaked during the Pax Romana period. The roman artists and architects experimented with concrete and created unique forms of the building that had never been seen in any other civilizations.
