BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: MECHANISMS OF SEXUAL SELECTION IN HUMANS Name: Grade Course: Tutor’s Name: (03, December, 2010) Beauty and the Beast: Mechanisms of Sexual Selection in Humans This paper was written to mainly provide a framework for future research on sexual selection and also to encourage scientist to carry out research to measure variables that affect sexual election in different species. This literature review was intended to provide and understanding on the details that explain on the researched mechanisms that have been known or that are imperative to contribute to sexual selection in humans. This paper involved a through review of various research works including: sexual selection that was carried out by Charles Darwin which covered research on constraints on contest competition and mechanisms of sexual selection. There was also a review of the qualitative comparative studies on the evidence for the dimensionally hypotheses as well as the various existing literature on sexual selection in humans. The review on sexual selection in humans covered various topics like, testing of evolutionary predictions, evidence of design for male contests, human mating systems and the role that male contest play, male coalitions between group and within group competitions and finally on male and female choice. The review of the past literature and research papers showed that there have been a lot of evidences that suggest that good genes contribute to mate choice thus women also tend to choose mates partially on the basis of genetic quality.
