The Space of Morphological Change
Aim of writing the paper
The paper was written to express the issue of evolution which had taken place over time on St. Bernard dogs as indicated by the changes which have been discovered on transformation or variation of their skulls over time. It reveals that St. Bernard dog skulls dramatic modification demonstrates that allometry constraints may be overcome by selection through the substantial and sustained change (Drake, Klingenberg, 2008).
Tested hypothesis
The tested hypothesis is that St. Bernard dog skulls have undergone morphological transformation over time for better survival in the environment.
Conclusions
It has been found out that St. Bernard dog skulls have gone through considerable transformation morphologically over time and this may continue as time goes on. Changes in shape correspond to breeds’ specified features. Palate and upper jaw have tilted lowering posterior part and raising anterior part, leading to shortened and high muzzle.
Conclusion effects on other issues
The results reveal that evolution occurs on living organisms over time and that physical characteristics of some organisms keep on changing over time. These changes may be aimed at making the organisms more fit to stay in their environment. This means that organisms develop characteristics which are appropriate for survival in the environment (Drake, Klingenberg, 2008).
Questions which came up
The questions which come up from the article include; what genetic factors would have contributed to the skull transformation over time? Would there be any cross breeding involved which would have resulted to the transformations? Did the skull transformation affect the general behavior of the dogs over time?
Methodological problem
The technique used does not clearly indicate the reason why the dog skulls underwent transition. It does not explain how the changes would assist the dogs to fit better in the...
