This is a report that highlights massive violations that were committed to children due to the conflict between parties such as Al-Qaida, the Mouvement national pour and pro-government militias among others. Common violations included; sexual violence, recruitment, use of children, killing and maiming as well as attacks in schools and hospitals. With mitigation of the conflicts, there was a decrease in the number of violations. However, despite the improvement in the situation, children still remain to be vulnerable.

The above link covers involvement of children in the armed conflict. The number of children being exposed to armed conflict are rising every day as this phenomenon proliferates the globe. There are highlights of the various ways used to recruit children into the armed conflict and the roles they play once they are recruited. Some of the roles include; spies, porters, servants, messengers and also used for sexual purposes. Some children have no option rather than being in the armed conflict to secure food and survival. This children end up being robbed of their childhood and often succumb to massive brutality. The core message in the report is that conflict has adversely impacted on children.

This is a report that asserts children are not soldiers. There is a campaign that advocates for the same and was launched by Leila Zerrougui in March 2014. There is a robust collaboration between special representative in the sector of children and armed conflict as well as the UNICEF to support prevention of children’s recruitment in the armed conflict by the year 2016. Some of the countries in support of the campaign are Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Democratic Republic of Congo.
