I learn that change, argument, and conflict are natural parts of human lives including lives of each nation, organization, and agency. Conflict resolution is an approach in which two or more parties derive a peaceful solution to a dispute among them. The dispute may be emotional, financial, personal or political. I learn that when a disagreement arises, the effective means of action is the negotiation to solve the dispute. The objectives of negotiation are to create a solution which all parties can come into agreement, to work rapidly as position to establish this solution, and to enhance, not hurt, the relationship between the parties in dispute (Lewicki, Barry and Saunders, 2010). Conflict resolution based on negotiation can be vital for all parties concerned. Each party will benefit more by participating in negotiations rather than throwing words or walking away. This can be a way in which parties obtain resources which might otherwise not be created. There are seven steps for negotiating the solution of a disagreement, which include understanding the conflict, communicating with the opponent, brainstorming possible resolutions, select the best resolution, using a third party mediator, exploring alternatives, and coping with stressful situations.
I have understood the practices, processes, and theory of negotiation, relationship management and conflict resolution that have enabled me become more efficient negotiator in a broad variety of situations. Applying practices of conflict resolution will enable effective managing negotiations and personal and professional relationships. I will develop understanding of the tactics, strategies, and principles of efficient negotiation, relationship management, and conflict resolution, and improve the ability to evaluate the variables in culture, personality, the effect of interpersonal styles, and negotiations. Lewicki, Barry and Saunders (2010) explain that relationship management, conflict resolution, and negotiation are complex processes which need effective development and application of interpersonal, persuasive, perceptual, and analytical skills.
