Term Paper Instructions:

A. Organization Behavior Integration & Development Paper. The intention of this final integration paper is to provide you with the opportunity to identify specific actions you will take to integrate the concepts of organizational behavior in your current work role(s) and/or volunteer work. You will write a 5 – 6 page paper that integrates the concepts from the course with specific steps you will take to expand, adjust or change your approaches when working with others to achieve important organization/team results. In this final paper you will demonstrate your learning from this course and your ability to integrate the concepts from the text/online assignments with the actions you will take to apply them.
In this paper, you will:
• First, you will summarize the importance of the concepts to you/your team at work or in your volunteer roles – these would be summaries of the concepts from the course.
• Then, you will list 3 – 4 specific actions you will take to enhance, improve, change your approach to apply the concepts at work (you can use the online discussion boards, approaches shared in class presentations, etc.). Since you will select THREE specific concepts and you will have 3 – 4 specific actions for each one, you will have a total of 9 – 12 specific actions in this final paper. All actions you include in your final integration paper should be what you are personally committed to doing and within your ability to make change (e.g. focusing on how to make your supervisor a better leader is not within your “sphere of influence”, however you can focus on how you will communicate in different ways with your supervisor to prevent miscommunications and improve the results you achieve).
This paper asks you to name 3 actions you would take to change your organization based on content from the class and discuss steps you would take to implement these changes. Below I have provided a brief example of what I would like you to do with 3 actions, and 3 ways you would implement these actions. Note that I only state the ways I would implement the actions, in your paper you would offer more detail on how you do so.
Action 1: Address the organization’s current agency problem(s) with top management adequately represent the interests of shareholders. (Ch. 3)
Add representatives from all stakeholder groups to organization boards / committees.
Encourage greater communication between top management, employees, and other stakeholders through quarterly meetings.
Review top management’s compensation to ensure that it aligns with sustainable long term goals.
Action 2: Change organization’s culture to differ from the culture instituted by founders. (Ch. 7)
Hire more employees with values and skills that align with the future direction of the organization
Introduce anticipated changes to current organizational members and offer opportunity for them to offer feedback and recommendations.
Ensure that changes to culture are permanent.
Action 3: Reduce incidents of perceived conflict that grow into manifested conflict in organization. (Ch. 14)
When potential conflict arises encourage employees to locate true source of conflict.
Train employees to understand the difference between positions and interests.
Ensure that resources are distributed equitably in organizations.

* Integrating Communication for Collaboration
Interestingly communication only sometimes promotes collaboration in an organization, but it is only possible for collaboration to happen with touch. This means that for any team to achieve its stated objectives, they must engage, share ideas, and discuss and this is only possible with effective communication. Borkowski & Meese (2020) assert that collaboration is working with a team towards a common goal or resolving a problem. Thus, effective communication fosters understanding, collaboration, and alignment in organizations. It is important to note that good communication can prevent an organization from making costly mistakes. However, the importance of integrating communication for collaboration goes beyond this. For example, it promotes efficiency, creativity, and innovation among employees.
