Needs analysis
Millennials are the future of the business. The millennial generation is unlike any previous cohort in its mannerisms, education level, etc. Many organizations and businesses have had challenges employing millennials, and they are citing common factors for about their employability. Most of the factors linger about their perceived value and thus demand higher remuneration, they also challenge the status quo especially on dressing and working hours, places and timesCITATION Mil151 \l 1033 (Schulte, 2015). Millennials want to work on a flexible and fun environment with little oversight, especially on their dressing and working times. They are also hardly grounded in their respective jobs as they keep seeking more ‘satisfying’ jobs elsewhere. The problems about millennials are multifactorial and need several angles of attack to engrain it to human resource manager on how best to manage millennials in their respective organizations.
Millennial generation makes up the largest part of the employee workforce today CITATION Spe16 \l 1033 (Deering, 2016). They have dominated the workplaces, and they are not fond of the traditional ways of operations. Most of the senior management positions are retained by older employees from earlier generations who have a very wrong idea and mindsets of the millennial generations. They assume millennials do not want to work hard and they are impatient. From the description of millennials by older generations, the millennial generation is just tech-savvy, egocentric and lazy CITATION Lan17 \l 1033 (Dowdy, 2017). They want to take shortcuts, and they are not fond of rules. They want to challenge the long-established management establishment and status quo which only favors them. The older generations interpret millennial demands as ill-advised, wrong and potentially catastrophic to the organization/business and or to their careers. The friction between older generations and the millennial generation has put the future of many organization in uncertainty as the generation continually makes up most of the workforce. The problem has ballooned, and there is no sufficient end in sight especially on how to manage and lead millennials.
Since many organizations have labeled millennials as lazy, entitled, narcissistic job-hoppers, the organizations do not want to invest in millennial generations to train them to steer the organizations CITATION Lan17 \l 1033 (Dowdy, 2017). It is a very misinformed approach to the problem posed by millennials because if the organizations are to outlive the existing managers and key decision makers, they must find a way of working with millennials and trust them to take the organizations to the next step. If a company has to survive in the foreseeable future, its destiny lies with millennials, and forward-thinking managers have to figure out how to work with and manage millennials. It is an operation that would call for a trade-off of management approaches to have a lasting and amicable solution to the problem which is millennials. Each organization has to rethink the approach they have on dressing, office environment, remunerations standards and structures, work-life balance programs for employees, etc. CITATION Lin15 \l 1033 (Linden, 2015). This training program is structured to help managers understand millennials in their respective organizations and offer tips on how to manage them.
Training materials
To train millennials, the environment must be designed for them. Millennials are very tech-savvy and most traditional training programs that entail lectures is likely to be ineffective if not having a digital element. Thus, for training materials, they must gravitate toward information technology. Thus, the following training materials will be necessary for the training program.
* Laptop
* Projector & projecting screen
* Whiteboard & board eraser
* Additional stationery if required, e.g., paper, pens, highlighters, etc
* Air-conditioning/ fans/ heating that’s easily adjustable
* Power points for plugging electronics for the trainers and trainees
* Internet access
* Cloakroom /Space for participants’ belongings
The training is to be held in a conference room, so it is assumed that the projector is already installed. The projector will be used by the trainers. A laptop is for enabling the already prepared notes and content on the training to be projected on the screen. A whiteboard is necessary for discussion and further elaboration of the contents projected on the screen. The trainer can use the whiteboard to draw further and explicate his/her points. Demonstrations are necessary when explaining concepts to aid in understanding. Additional stationery is necessary for the trainees to make notes. For most of them, it is hard to type them directly...
