Attend a committee meeting in your health care organization. If you are not currently employed in a health care setting, you may elect to attend a committee meeting at another company, a community center, a local school, local chamber of commerce or other professional organization. Observe the interactions between committee members and the process used by the committee to arrive at decisions. In 500-750 words, describe the function of the committee and the roles of those in attendance. Describe your observations of the interactions between members of the committee and determine whether the process used to arrive at decisions is a form of shared governance. A minimum of two academic references from credible sources are required for this assignment. Submit the completed "Collaborative Committee Meeting Verification Form" with the assignment. Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a grading rubric. Healthcare organizations have been facing issues for quite a long time. Some of these problems have been raised by patients as well as other healthcare seekers. The issues raised are from both an ethical and medical perspectives. Some are within the organization’s control, whereas others are beyond organizational control. For this reason, it was necessary to form a special committee that would address these issues. A special committee of health care professionals was formed, made up of 7 members. Out of the seven members, there was the chairperson and a secretary. In attendance were the chairperson, the secretary, and the remaining five members. The meeting started on time as indicated in the notice. All the members were settled by the time the meeting was starting.
The committee was expected to discuss the issues raised by patients regarding drug shortages in health facilities and poor handling of patients by healthcare workers. On a higher note, the committee was supposed to find ways of how to improve access to care, and finally how to allocate the limited medications and benefactor organs. Each member present had a role to play. The following were the roles and functions of the different members. First, the chairperson was responsible for maintaining the discussion on the appropriate topic. During meetings, people tend to go out of topic and at the end of the day there is no final decision made. The chairperson ensures that the members stay within the subject of discussion. Secondly, the chairperson is responsible for giving chances to member’s contribution and participation in the debate. Finally, the chairperson confirms the final decision made by the members. On the other hand, it is the secretary’s responsibility to record the minutes of the meeting as well as the final determination that the Committee members agree on.
