While the discoveries are valuable, there are many challenges related to ownership of the area where they were discovered. The discovery of the gas within the Mediterranean region has caused many shocks to the Eastern Mediterranean region. Many potential problems can arise from the discoveries, significantly exacerbating the tensions among the countries involved. There have been conflicts involving Lebanon about the ownership of the discovery. The many players and potential conflicts in the Eastern Mediterranean have presented many complications about the viability of extracting the gas discovered. The discovery is also expected to fuel tensions instead of bringing peace within the region. There are many disagreements concerning the reserves' ownership that will increase the conflicts within the countries involved. The reserves can transform strategic alliances and the geopolitical relations among the countries involved.
