Digital Mobile Technology in Managing the Epidemic in China and Media and Public Response

Research Proposal Instructions:

It is the research proposal. 2500-word.
Please write this essay strictly in accordance with the format of the example essay I provided and the questions in each part of the requirements I provided.
YOU ARE NOT TO INTERVIEW PEOPLE OR SURVEY PEOPLE OR COLLECT DATA OR ANYTHING OF THIS SORT.
This is a 2500-word submission in which you outline how you would go about answering a research question.
I have selected my research question : ”How have smart phones and mobile apps been used during COVID-19 as a tool for public health? What has been the public and media response to their use?”
Through my communication with my tutor, I narrowed the scope of this problem. I decided to limit the research location to China. And limit the mobile application to contact tracking applications.
Following is what I wrote, you can use this aim:
aim:
The purpose of this study is to understand how digital technology has played what role during the epidemic by investigating the media and public's response to the use of smartphones and mobile programs during the epidemic. This study will specifically analyze cases during the epidemic in China, and limit digital technology to mobile applications developed specifically for the epidemic. By understanding the feedback from the media and the public on mobile apps developed for the epidemic, we will better understand the corresponding impact of digital mobile technology on public health during the epidemic. More importantly, this research will help the government and technology companies to more comprehensively improve the quality of applications, thereby further enhancing the positive impact of digital technology on epidemic prevention and control.
You should split this into four subheadings, and answer:Please strictly follow the questions to answer the relevant questions, and strictly observe the word count requirements
AIMS AND BACKGROUND (~500 words)What is the background to your area? What field are you researching? What previous work has been done in this area? What did such research find? What is the cutting edge of scholarship in your field? What are you aiming to do? What is your research question? What will your project discover? I suggest writing this as two paragraphs, the first being background, and the second being aims, which should be a logical extension of the background - you first tell us the current state of research in your field, and then you tell us what you propose to do. SIGNIFICANCE AND INNOVATION (~500 words)Why does this research matter? Why should anyone care? What will be the value of the findings? How and in what wayas wil your project be new? What pressing concerns will this answer? Will you be using a new methodology? Will you examining your domain in a new way? Will you be bringing new conceptual or theoretical material to bear? Why is your project not just a repeat of previous work? Why do your project now? Why is your project important? What will this tell us that we didn't previously know? APPROACH AND METHODOOLGY (1000 words)How will you carry out your project? This splits into two parts, a) your conceptual or theoretical approach and b) your methodology. In the first case: how are you framing your work? What theories will help inform your method and help you understand your data? Why have you chosen these? Why are they appropriate? What tools do they give you for conducting this research project? What literature and what thinkers will you draw on? In the second case: what method(s) are you using? Why these methods? What do they offer you? How will you recruit participants (if relevant)? How will you narrow down the availability of online data (if relevant)? How will you secure informed consent (if relevant)? How long will your interviews be and what sorts of things will you ask (if relevant)? How will you distribute your survey and what sorts of questions will it ask (if relevant)? Etc etc. And: how will your chosen method answer your research question? Why are these methods the best possible choice for your research question?
ETHICS STATEMENT (~500 words)How will you make sure your research is conducted in an ethical manner? What are the main potential ethical issues with your research project? How will you handle them? How will you prevent harm? Do you need to secure informed consent, and if so, why? Is your data public or private? What are the implications of this? What possible harms might arise? Can these be justified given the benefit of the project, or must they be avoided instead, and if so, how? What are the ethical implications of using data from interviews, survey, data analysis, etc? What materials will you provide participants (if relevant)?

Covid-19: Digital Technology as a Public Health Tool
Aims
The purpose of this study is to: (1) investigate the role played by digital technology, particularly mobile contact tracing applications, in managing the epidemic in China and (2) examine media and public response to the use of the same in the context of public health. This research will restrict its regional focus to China and limit digital technology to contact tracing mobile applications developed specifically for Covid-19. The two research aims will help improve understanding of the relative impact of digital mobile technology on public health and media and public responses to mobile contact tracing applications.
Background
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to present enormous challenges to public health officials in terms of complex transmission routes, pending initial points of infection, high contagiousness of the virus, large populations of highly susceptible people, infected populations widely scattered, and unavailability of vaccines (Chiba, 2021). Given the existence of asymptomatic patients and the long incubation period of Covid-19, timely and accurate contact tracing is crucial to managing the spread of the virus (Zhao et al., 2020). Contact tracing is a way of monitoring infected individuals or those exposed to infected persons through the process of contact identification, listing, and follow-up (Owusu, 2020). In February of last year, China rolled out the "health code" app countrywide to restrict people's movements and curb new infection rates. (Hogan et al., 2021).
Developed by two of China's biggest internet giants, Tencent and Alibaba, citizens were required to input their details to register. The “health code” app employs self-reported travel histories, odd symptoms, and users’ medical data to assign citizens a green, red, or yellow QR code (Zhou et al., 2021). A green code allows a user to access public spaces freely, and a red code indicates that the user is infected with the virus. In contrast, a yellow code means that the user might have contacted an infected person and must quarantine in an isolation facility or home (Seto et al., 2020). Implementing mobile contact tracing applications has been critical to China successfully combatting Covid-19 (Shu & Li, 2020). As more countries implement similar health code systems, digital contact tracing has attracted enormous interest among scholars and policymakers.
Most studies have tended to concentrate on evaluating the effectiveness and accuracy of mobile applications in virus detection. A few studies have investigated the ethical implications of digital contact tracing, especially concerns over discrimination, mass surveillance, and privacy. Studies have found that mobile contact tracing applications are more effective than manual contact tracing. One study determined that technology tracing efficacy was 80% effective in identifying close contacts as compared to manual contact tracing, whose effectiveness was determined to be 11% (Shahroz et al., 2021). However, the studies also revealed that the effectiveness of...
