The Cures Act contains provisions to accelerate research into serious disorders, restructure development and delivery of drugs and medical devices, as well as enhance mental health services (Arvisais-Anhalt et al.). It also aims to eliminate regulatory obstacles in the use of electronic health record (HER) systems and health information technology (IT). The Cures Act improves system implementation by containing provisions aimed at increasing EHR interoperability and deterring information blocking by EHR developers. It urges all health information exchange networks as well as research and education initiatives to collaborate in improving patient access and health information exchange (Lye et al.). The policy also enhances clinical care by heightening the usefulness of EHR systems in diagnosing diseases and reducing clinical errors.
