Define Hypotheses

Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment leads to reduction in sebaceous gland size and inflammation in acne vulgaris lesions.

Telemonitoring controlled by the primary care professionals could be beneficial to chronic lung disease and heart failure patients in homecare settings, reducing hospital readmissions’ frequency. Martin-Lesende and colleagues also discussed that home-based telemonitoring could enhance these patients’ life quality in a acceptable and cost-effective way, to both healthcare professionals and patients.

Define Independent and Dependent Variables and Types of Data for Variables

Independent variable: IPL treatment to acne vulgaris lacerations.
Dependent variable: Reduction in sebaceous gland size and inflammation.
Types of Data: Ordinal – sebaceous gland size, inflammatory infiltrate, biopsy, patient satisfaction, clinical assessment.

Independent variable: Telemonitoring of homecare-based patients.

Population of Interest for the Study

The study focused on 24 patients with acne vulgaris, chosen from Dermatology Out-patient Clinic within Minia University Hospital. Eligible patients were not placed in any acne treatment modalities at least three months before the research. The researchers also obtained the respective patient’s informed consent.
