The Dixie wildfire displaced more than 700 people in July 2021, burning 963,309 acres of forest area in Lassen National Park, Plumas National Forest, which covers a part of the five counties (Schoennagel et al. 4584). The overlying hot weather, drought, dry vegetation, and strong winds led to rampant fire activities. Our environment, the earth, ultimately governs our economic systems since it provides us with everything we need for our economies and everything else to prosper. For example, to profit economically, we require water, food, and stuff to purchase, sell, or exchange with others (Rafique et al., 4623). Therefore, in a growing economy, there is a high chance that environmental pollution will be on the rise, making the environment and the economy is related.
Source of the ecological issues
Amid the wildfire crisis, the home country was affected in its economic activities. Other dependence of the victim country will be affected directly or indirectly regarding the economic status. The fire was characterized by the depletion of the ozone layer and increased degradation of air, land, and water masses. Population in North America has been increasing at a high rate, and with that comes increased use of energy and its consumption, which leads to high demand, thus resulting in developments such as the Dixie fire (Schoennagel et al. 4584). The increased population promoted more economic activities and development within the areas affected by the fire. These economic activities have worsened the environment lately, but as economies come to a brisk success, they shift towards bettering the environment through policies and liberations that will factor in the role of the environment in a prosperous economy.
While the ecological issues increase due to economic interventions, specific points such as the use of land properly, management of infrastructure, and how the economy is accountable to the environment are factored in (Rafique et al., 4623). First, the land is enduring pollution in a different dimension. Overpopulation of a place results in increased household consumption activities resulting in more waste being disposed of on the land, degrading the value of the land. Soil erosion leads to less or no vegetation cover and growth. Thus, an unbalanced ecosystem might lead to frequent calamities like the Dixie fire. Further, to reduce the waste of land or pollute it, populations need to be dispersed in logical and systematic patterns that will consider the given population's activities (Lopez, 240).
When there is an increase in a country's economic activities, there is a demand for reliable and innovative infrastructure to meet the standards the new economy sets to maintain. Building and construction mainly involve altering the topography of a place, which will affect the natural shape of the landmass as a whole (Lopez, 240). Emissions from the development of infrastructure affect the environment by releasing dangerous substances into the air and waste spillage to the vast lands.
