Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party controlled Germany between 1933 and 1945, during this time the Eastern Europe country of Germany was referred to as Nazi Germany. Hitler through his Nazi Party became a dictatorial, polarizing figure turning Germany to a totalitarian state. Hitler was appointed to office, as Chancellor of Germany in 1933 by the then President of the Weimer Republic Paul von Hindenburg. After Hindenburg’s death in 1934, Hitler and his Nazi Party merged both the Presidency and Chancellery into one dominant and office performing, all powers being bestowed upon him as the supreme leader, whose word was law. He automatically became head of Nazi Germany and started implementing the radical, discriminatory policies of the Nazi Party. Hitler was labeled the Fuhrer und Reichskanzler which loosely translates to head of state. He christened his regime as the Third Reich, the connotation of his regime as a de facto successor of the early Holy Roman Empire, which was the official First Reich, between 800 to 1806. The Second Reitch was the German Empire from 1871 to 1918. In the same year after assuming office, all political parties except the Nazi Party were banned.
Nazi Party leadership used the concept of race to gain a near fanatical following, making Adolf Hitler very popular among the people of Germany. His politics centered on racism, anti-Semitism, and retention of ‘purity' in Germany. Nazis considered the German people to be the most superior of all human races. They were considered the purest of the Aryan race. It is here that women played an important role in the Hitler regime. Open discrimination against other ethnicities such as Romanis, Jews, Blacks and the Gypsy begun after Hitler took power. His regime built concentration camps to imprison the Jews, and other ethnicities deemed impure and not worth mixing with the pure Aryan race. Political opponents were exiled, tortured or killed, while religious leaders and Christians who criticized the Nazi Party were eliminated. To define a German woman, was to give them meaning as mothers and wives, the only ‘approved' jobs for a woman outside the home were ones where she could use her maternal skills, such as teaching or welfare services.[Noakes and Pridham, Nazism 1919-1945 Vol 2, (Exeter: Exeter Press, 2000), p 269]

of men.Hitler described Aryan women as ‘’our most fanatical and royal combatants’’ Hitler held women in high regard not only as agents of the Nazi Party and Nazism but also as biological generators of the Aryan race. Race determined a person’s standing in the world, according to the Nazis. Aryans were considered to be Germans, natives of the Scandinavians nations and the British.
