Teenage Driver Auto Accident Rates
There is a steady increase in the rate of motor vehicle accidents. The rate of adolescents being involved in road accidents that involve car crashes has been a common risk to the youth in the United States since the late 19th century. This comes as the price of early licensing that allows teenagers to be granted permission after the driving school. However, despite the presence of the adults during training, the transition to independent driving has been a common zone of risk for most youths. According to Shope, (2009), more than 15 youths died in road accidents in the United States per day with more than seven hundred thousand others hospitalized throughout the country per year. For this reason, the budget allocation for handling the accidents cost has kept rising steeply in several billion dollars. The government has since established the graduated driver licensing initiatives that have since been adopted to help improve the learner ability before the teenagers are allowed to use vehicles on the road independently.
About a third of the total young drivers in the United States have been reported to text or send email addresses while driving (Snyder, 2016). A quarter of the total number of crashes involving children is a result of substance abuse, especially alcoholic drinks. About 12 percent of all the accidents caused as a result of destruction involved teenage drivers. More than half of the teenagers have been involved in taking phone calls while driving their vehicles. Similarly, about three-quarters of all the teenage drivers involved in car crash accidents and casualties did not use the seat belt while driving yet they are common and mandatory procedures that are required during driving for safety (Snyder, 2016). It can be easily noticed that lack of experience and disobeying simple traffic rules has cost millions of teenage drivers and passengers. This is a clear indication that the authority is not working accordingly to maintain order as the youth use vehicles. At this rate, millions and hundreds of thousands will continue to die on the roads in the United States for poor road usage and following simple regulatory measures that have been put in place.
There is the need of working on a strategy to reduce the road carnage that happens on the roads to teenage drivers. Amore solid and concrete resolution should be made about the issue of driving under substance abuse to reduce the rate of cases such as dru...
