The activities of Boko Haram in the U.S. are likely to cause harm to the people. Human Intelligence (HUMINT) entails the gathering of intelligence via means of interpersonal contact. The information collected is obtained from human sources (Coyne, Bell & Merrington, 2013). In this case, the U.S. government could use individuals to gather information regarding the activities of the group in the country. Espionage would be appropriate for the form of HUMINT. Here, the government will have spies collect confidential information from the group without permission. These spies will infiltrate Boko Haram and join as regular members. The spies will be participating in the activities of the organization like planning for terrorist attacks. Other spies can still secretly join organizations affiliated to Boko Haram. Being inside will be critical in getting first-hand information about what the group is planning.
Further, the U.S. needs geospatial data to track down the activities of Boko Haram in the country. This can be done using geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). The approach entails obtaining visual representations of activities that are likely to threaten national security in the U.S. (Coyne, Bell & Merrington, 2013). Using imagery generated from satellites, the government can obtain information leading to the activities of the group. For instance, the group could be undertaking mass recruitments in a remote area. Setline imagery can assist in pinpointing the location of the site. This makes it possible to gather information on the group without being detected.
Additionally, the U.S. government can utilize Signals Intelligence (SIGINT).
