 Feminist Theory
Describing masculinity can be a challenging task because it is a concept that embodies divergent views and perceptions, especially in society. Societal norms affect masculinity, especially among men, their bodily image, and status forms. In general, masculinity takes two approaches, and that is the concept of masculinity among men and women. Masculinity among men is often relatable by many, while the idea of masculinity among women remains a topic that psychologists and scholars continue to pursue. Masculinity among women is a complex context as it takes a varied approach in describing it.  Masculinity among women has often been perceived to be an imitation of the superior traits that men have. When most people think of masculine women, they often think of various historical figures who triumph against the male-dominated society or reflect on our interaction as e define ourselves as a manly woman. This brings the understanding of the concept of feminist right outside the confine of men. Halberstam describes how most cultures concentrate on femininity among men and do not consider the interest o masculinity among women. Those who express non-conformity in their gender are often surrounded by stigma. This raises the need to understand the various features associated with sex differences (Halberstam, 2019). The different human traits associated with her include beauty, rationality, athleticism, care, and stigma. In our modern society, most cultures' most relatable type of masculinity involves the heroic masculinity; this is where several traits linked to masculinity are grouped to represent the ideal and other similar masculines tossed away.  The most relatable forms of masculinity are presented in movies such as those of James Bond. For men, masculinity represents social status, privilege, and pride in both public and private places.  Halberstam, however, tries to consider the concept of masculinity outside the confine of males. For instance, when girls grow to become Tomboys, it is often described as a natural need for boys' freedom. This sort of behavior I mostly encouraged to be a sign of independence until a certain age becomes discouraging. In most cases, puberty is the underlying limitation of tomboyish, and this is where feminism then becomes a code given to girls (Halberstam, 2019). For boys, however, adolescence is the step-in which boys start to open up, as for girls, it becomes repression. In this context, becoming a tomboy becomes a process of coming of age to womanhood instead of being a part of their identity. Therefore, the categories of self-expression ad identification a...
