Abortion Pro-Choice
Based on the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 22 million illegal abortions occur annually worldwide, leading to the death of around 47,000 females (United Nations Human Rights, 2016). Pro-choice fosters women’s rights medically, ethically, and personally. Individuals in the pro-choice movement believe that everyone should exercise the fundamental human right of deciding whether and when to have children. A pro-choice movement member considers abortion as an option for managing unwanted pregnancies (Piper, 2022). All people should have the opportunity to choose what they want with their bodies regardless of their religious, cultural, racial, or ethnic differences. In the same way that people choose their careers, religions, and other things in their lives, females should be allowed to decide what they want with their bodies. Some people might disagree by saying that abortion is killing. Others might say that it is a selfish act. However, women are the ones that should choose whether to keep their pregnancies or not. The authority should not dictate things that females are supposed to do with their bodies, but that is an individual choice that every woman should make.
A pro-choicer understands that numerous reasons can contribute to abortion. Some might be psychological, medical, economic, and ethical-related. In contemporary society, females have many life-altering decisions made on their behalf by individuals in the authority. For instance, a decision of whether to keep a pregnancy or not should not involve other people if the woman involved does not want. Indeed, it is her choice to determine if she wants to keep the baby or abort it. Some large organizations, such as the American Medical Association (AMA), have contributed directly or indirectly to the politicization of abortion (Filippo, 2020). Traditionally, one of the primary roles of women was to get married and bear children for their husbands. In that light, abortions were perceived as health risks for females and also prevented them to meet their marriage contract, which was childbearing. In addition, some women might choose to abort due to medical complications or their mental health. Since pregnancy is a consequence of sexual intercourse where females choose who and when to engage in this act, it should also be upon them to decide if they want to keep the pregnancy or not. Nobody should make this decision for them since they are the ones who undergo the challenges and body changes to cater to the needs of the growing fetuses.
In some instances, abortion is the right choice to make between death and life situations.
