For this assignment, students will be conducting scholarly research and incorporating content they have learned from Topics 1-4 to write a 1,200-1,500-word paper. This assignment contains two parts. Please read the assignment instructions carefully to ensure the inclusion of both parts.
To prepare for this assignment, locate three scholarly articles, using parameters for articles that are peer-reviewed and published within the last 5 years.
(a) One of your articles must include research methods and design concepts from Chapter 1 of the textbook, including but not limited to survey and interview, case study, physiological measures, standardized testing, descriptive, correlational, or experimental research, and cross-sectional or longitudinal approaches.

Part I: The purpose of this assignment is to combine focused research with elements learned within the class. Your goal is to pick one area of interest from what you have learned so far. Address the following in your paper in third person narrative:
1. Describe the Topic selected (genetic components of development)
2. Which theories and theorists contributed to this Topic?
3. In a minimum of 300 words, summarize each of the three scholarly articles found in the library. Identify the following within the article: What type of research method was used? What type of design was used? Was the research qualitative or quantitative? Identify other research elements if any, such as informed consent, confidentiality, debriefing practices, and deception.
4. Discuss whether the research was ethical and explain another way the study could have been conducted. A detailed discussion with source support is required for critical thought to be demonstrated. *To receive full credit, you have to include an alternative method of conducting the study.

The topic alludes to the scientific findings on the role played by genetics in shaping a person’s development. The genetic makeup of a person plays a role in influencing their physical, cognitive, and behavioral traits. Extensive evidence has revealed that most of the features exhibited by a human being result from the expression of inherent genes. These genes are passed down from parents. The genes are analogous to coded information for the traits a person should have. It is worth noting that although the genetic components of development greatly influence the nature of a person, other factors influence this nature too. The factors include environmental factors and experiences of a person. For example, exposure to abuse may affect the psychological wellbeing of a person.
Theories and Theorists
Several theories have been developed in an attempt to explain the genetic components of development. One of the key theories regarding this topic is the nature vs. nurture debate. The theory suggests that genetic and environmental factors interact to shape the development of an individual. To a large extent, the theory has been validated by scientific evidence. It is impossible to alienate genetic and environmental factors when describing the development process. Another key theory is the epigenetic theory of development. The theory suggests that environmental factors influence gene expression in some instances. Genetic experts have also validated this theory as they have revealed that gene mutations may occur as a person interacts with the environment. One of the theorists who contributed to the topic is Francis Galton, who asserted that intelligence is inherited. Another prominent theorist is Charles Darwin, who attempted to explain how evolution occurs through genetic changes. There was also Gregor Mendel, who developed the theoretical framework for laws of inheritance.

This article uses the quantitative research method to determine the extent to which genetic analyses support a general dimension of psychopathology. The population of interest in the study is children and adolescents. In this case, the researchers carried out 11 studies, each targeting a unique psychopathological issue. Some of the issues that the researchers focused on are mood disorders and attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (Allegrini et al., 2020). The researchers made an interesting finding. The studies revealed that, for the most part, a group of genes is attributed to the dimension of the conditions. The research further revealed that the genes contributed to this dimension by between fifty and sixty percent.
The design used for the purpose of this study is the cross-sectional one. Therefore, all relevant data were collected concurrently.
